Star Wars Saturday: Disney Theme Parks Will Expand Their Star Wars Presence

Seems like a no-brainer, really, but a few days ago, Disney CEO Bob Iger suggested that they would be significantly expanding the Star Wars presence at the Disney parks. Currently there is only the Star Tours II ride. Speculation and teases have suggested there could be a speeder bike ride or a Mos Eisley cantina restaurant. Iger even intimated that Star Wars could be like Harry Potter is for Universal. Could that mean a World of Star Wars addition? See The Star Wars Underground and Entertainment Weekly for more information.

This news has brought much excitement to a house that would otherwise skip the Disney trip altogether. But now, well, the whole thing sounds like much more fun. I’d love to visit a restaurant designed like the cantina. Heck, I’d love to walk through “Mos Eisley”. And I’d love to “ride” a speeder bike – that was one of my favorite childhood fantasies while tooling around on my dirt bike.

What else would be fun? Perhaps a blow up the Death Star roller coaster. A podrace on Tatooine. A jedi training obstacle course on Dagobah or Coruscant. One of those tower drops into carbonite freezing. The ability to walk through the Millenium Falcon or a Kessel Run ride. An upside-down and backwards version of the Harry Potter broomstick-riding attraction that would recreate being brought to the feast fires of the Ewoks.

I suspect whatever they decide on will be enough to get us planning a family vacation before the decade is out.
