Coming Tonight: Once Upon a Time 4×09*
CAUTION: two promos, two sneak peeks, and some other number of speculations
“Fall” – As the Spell of Shattered Sight approaches Storybrooke, Mary Margaret and David rally the residents to prepare for the curse while Belle and the fairies work together on an antidote. Gold, with Hook as his reluctant servant, sets about an exit strategy of his own. Regina and Robin Hood ready themselves for the worst while, with the help of a locator spell, Emma and Elsa search desperately for Anna. In Arendelle, Anna and Kristoff awaken to find that their kingdom is once again in danger, written by Jane Espenson and directed by Mario Van Peebles.
*There’s some confusion about whether this is 4×09 or 4×10, due to the two part “Smash the Mirror,” but we’re going with the original numbering until further notice.
Here’s the promo that aired after last week’s episode:
And here’s the more recent post break promo:
In the first sneak peak, Gold congratulates Ingrid and offers her a deal.
Emma, Elsa, Mary Margaret, David, Killian, Leroy, and Regina watch from the clock tower as Ingrid’s Shattered Sight cloud rolls in.
The second promo reveals that finally using a locator spell to find Anna worked and they should have tried it sooner. And apparently that’s Belle’s hand in the chemistry lab working on a counterspell with the fairies. I expect we’ll finally see Reul Ghorm in this episode.
This episode should be as funny as it is sad. Henry’s channeling a young Macaulay Culkin with those marbles. Snowing will be put through the ringer as Mary Margaret and David finally have a fight. Everything viewers shout at the television when either one does something silly has a chance of being played for laughs. The secondaries are bound to brawl in the streets. Expect the dwarfs to mock one another’s core qualities.
And we’ll get to see some modern day Evil Queen action, which is always good for bathetic comedy.
On the sad side, we’ll see some powerful, painful goodbyes. Things will be said which can’t be unsaid. Hook will be dragged around by his heartstrings doing more and more of Rumple’s dirty work, if he even survives.
The ribbons will keep Emma and Elsa safe from the effects of the spell. The Snow Queen wouldn’t want her beloved sisters seeing the worst in her. But since they’re also siphoning their sisterly magic, they might have to rely on their wits alone.
Will anyone else be immune? Maybe Anna, already having been a victim, will be the key to undoing the spell. Perhaps that’s why it’s so important to find her now.
