WESTCOAST_walkRevised171copy-54c886874f8cbSeriously, Star Wars fans are amazing. Among the best of them are the 501st Legion who not only take their cosplay very seriously but also are wonderful, charitable human beings.

Making the news over the past few days is 501st member Kevin Doyle who is walking from San Francisco to San Diego, a trip of 501 miles, to attend Comic-Con. But here’s the awesome part: he’s doing it to honor his late wife and raise money for a charity he started in her memory.

Along the way he’s found support from fellow 501st members and fellow fans of Star Wars. He’s been ready with a smile to pose for a selfie with anyone noticing this lone, walking Stormtrooper.

He met his wife Eileen through the 501st, proposed to her costumed as Darth Vader, and employed R2-D2 as a ring bearer at their wedding. My geek heart is all a-swoon.

Sadly, Eileen died in 2012 of pancreatic cancer. To honor her memory and help others, Kevin started the charity Eileen’s Little Angels, which puts together comfort care bags for children undergoing chemotherapy. His walk to Comic-Con is partly to raise awareness and money for Eileen’s Little Angels. You can donate to support the efforts here: https://www.crowdrise.com/501Milewalk/fundraiser/kevindoyle2
